Stan answers:

Alcohol is clear and doesn’t stain your teeth. Intensely colored spirits might, but smoking and coffee are more likely suspects.

Your braces are actually going to protect your teeth from stains. That isn’t necessarily a good thing, though: When your braces are removed, you’ll have nice white squares and bands where the braces were cemented on, while the remainder of the tooth is stained.

That said, they usually give you a full cleaning and polish when the braces are removed, if only to clean off the leftover cement.

And what do you think is on whitening strips, or the gel that you put in those mouth cups

How It Works
Tooth-whitening strips are an over-the-counter remedy that bleaches teeth for a whiter smile. As compared to other whitening methods, consumers prefer strips because they are easy to use, comfortable to wear and provide more consistent results. Individuals who use this product apply a thin strip of plastic to the front of both the upper and lower teeth. One side of the plastic is coated with a thin film of hydrogen peroxide; this is a bleaching agent. Once you place them across the teeth, you press the strips gently into place in order to get maximum contact. The strip is then kept on for a certain period of time that depending on the concentration of hydrogen peroxide within it. Strips are typically worn for 30 minutes, twice a day. Depending on the brand you purchase, you may use them for either 7 or 14 days.

How easily do teeth bonding stain?

My teeth are naturally white, I get compliments all the time on how white they are from dentists, friends, family, co-workers, and just random people. I am about to get teeth bonding on my front teeth to reshape them and am worried they will stain easily. I’m curious how quickly they will stain compared to my natural teeth and also how long they will last. I practice great oral hygiene. Thanks so much for your time.

Stan answers:

Composite resin used in bonding does have some porosity and some absorption. How much the resin stains depends on the particular formulation of the resin, your diet, the bugs in your saliva. The stain is not just on the surface. Most stain on natural tooth is extrinsic–ie: on the outside. Resin stains are absorbed into the body of the restoration.
So if you’re a big coffee, tea, fruit juice, red wine drinker, or you’re a smoker, you have to consider this stain factor. It may mean the bonded restorations will need to be periodically replaced, depending on how picky you are.
If you want to get restorations that will not develop intrinsic (inside) stain consider porcelain laminate veneers. They are bonded in place with composite resin, but the porcelain surface is smooth and any stain you develop can be polished off–like your natural teeth–maybe even easier. You should know though that most porcelain laminate veneers require that the tooth be reduced esp. On the facial surface–certainly not so much as when doing a crown, but reduced nonetheless.

This is easy since my mom is a dentist so al you have to do is use hydrogen peroxide and brush your teeth with that and baking soda so here is what you do

brush teeth with toothpaste (there is some with hydroge peroxide and baking soda in it)
then brush yourr teeth which peroxide put some in your mouth and brush
then dip your toothbrush in baking soda
rinse your mouth out wth non colored (Dye free) mouth wash since the dye colors your teeth

the baking soda and peroxide taste nasty but help so much

also dont leave baking soda or peroxide on your teeth since it will take off the enamel on your teeth which means no protection and cavitys will more likely occur

I don’t want to buy whitening strips so should I really go to my dentist again?

Stan answers:

Fluorosis stains are intrinsic stains and to cover them, professional teeth whitening can be done. Apart from this, you can also get dental lumineers or veneers to cover the affected tooth. You can discuss these options with your dentist. If it is a front tooth, then you can opt for porcelain dental veneers. These are cosmetic procedures. You can refer to a cosmetic dentist. For more info on cosmetic dentistry, refer to….
Stan answers:

Yes it does work. I have used it. Follow the instructions and after a few treatments you will begin to see results, but do expect miracles. If you have the lazer procedure done first and later continue with Zoom follow-ups I think you will see better and longer lasting results. Even getting the lazer procedure done is not fool proof. Your teeth will eventually yellowish again, but not as before. You should be happy with the results. Good Luck.

ZOOM teeth whitening Questions?

I need a second opinion on Zoom teeth whitening.

Based on what you know about it, do you think it is effective?

I have dark yellow stains in between teeth and something else “dysplasia” that my dentist mentioned, I have white spots randomly over more than a few of my teeth. Pretty much, I have different levels on staining on my teeth and wondering if the whitening will even the color out, even if some start out as a darker stain than others.

And what’s the peoper name for the white spots found on my teeth? Does whitening get that stuff out, since it’s NOT really antibiotics/drink/food/smoking stains.

Also been reading reviews saying Zoom is not effective for people white white spots.

Also my Dentist says there is a “Life time gaurantee”. Does that mean free retouching in office when necessary? Also, they will send me home with an at home bleaching kit after the procedure. It’ll be $400…let me know your thoughts.
Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.
I have tried the strips and toothpaste but they don’t work, so don’t recommend them.

I had a TERRIBLE experience with Zoom. It was EXTREMELY painful and my lips ended up being about three times their normal size for a week. In addition to that my teeth hurt like H*ll! I thought that it was just me, but when I started to look up stuff on the net I found out that this is quite common. In addition to that my teeth didn’t even come out very white and they weren’t badly stained to begin with. I wouldn’t reccomend Zoom to ANYONE.

Is zoom teeth whitening worth the money?

Does it work?

Stan answers:

Well, “worth” is a difficult word, isn’t it?

For me, ZOOM Teeth Whitening was well worth it. I had it done at 212 Smiling in NYC (Dr. William Wolfson), and I have been very pleased with the results. I’ve been getting lots of comments, most of them along the lines of “Have you done something different… ?” They usually think that I’ve had a particularly good hair cut, but then they realize that it’s my smile. The first few comments like that made me feel great and made the whole thing worthwhile.

Before I decided on the zoom treatments I discussed it with the doctor. He made sure to answer all my questions and to explain how it works. I had three treatments of about 15 – 20 minutes each. The reason I went with zoom was that my teeth are rather sensitive and the home bleaching kits I tried were too harsh for me. The zoom system also has less “fading” in the long run. The dentist can also recommend touch-ups that you can do at home yourself long after the original treatment.

I’ll put a link to the 212 Smiling page about zoom teeth whitening in the sources. Also the page of the outfit that made it originally.

Stan answers:

As a dental nurse i would advise you do not get it done at all….the sensitivity will be a long term effect from the bleaching agent that is used to whiten teeth and can cause other problems as well

A friend is currently using it and I can already tell the difference. She also found a free trial online for the kit. My kit just shipped out 2 days ago so I can’t wait. Hope that helps w/ your cheap teeth whitening question!

Stan answers:

Overall I would say that most of my patient’s have had some measure of success with the Crest Whitestrips, some more than others. Our office uses Crest Supreme which are much stronger than what you can buy in a drugstore and don’t cost that much more ($60.00 vs $30.00). You can purchase the drugstore version, but do yourself the favor of using them right after you get your teeth cleaned as any staining and buildup (tartar or plaque) will impede their ability to work. Also, don’t use fluoride toothpaste before putting the strips on (same reason). The strips are probably your best low price alternative, much less than in office whitening or custom trays (about $500.00). I am also hearing happy reviews with the Aquafresh whitening trays, unlike the strips they don’t have the tendency to slip or move). All of the methods (strips, trays, custom trays, in office whitening) have the potential to make your teeth temporarily sensitive, but will not harm the enamel. You might try to drink dark liquids through a straw and don’t smoke. Most whitening toothpastes just remove stain on the surfaces of your teeth and therefore are not so effective. Whatever method you use it will not whiten your teeth for life, as you age your teeth will get darker and may need to be whitened again.

Good luck!

Stan answers:

It can be immediatly or take a couple of days to see results It just depends on your teeth. The cost is generally 20-30 $’s, You can also get store brands and purchase off the internet like E-bay under teeth whiteners with tubes of whitener and usually a tray. Also the crest whiting mouthwash has peroxide in it and works as well. Of course baking soda and some suggestions that The others have made as well works, but crest does a pretty good job for $20-30

It’s basically bleach gel in a tray of my teeth. My dentist does not recommend using the store bought whitening strips and kits. Ask your dentist. If you don’t want to do whitening, veneers or porcelains are good options. But very expensive per tooth.
You can buy products at the drug store for that (ie White Strips). Ask your dentist which one he recommends, some of them will actually remove the enamel from your teeth.

ps3 freezes up at times?

My ps3 always seems to freeze up online at certain times. Its usually when i go to social site, such as Myspace, Myyearbook, etc. Myspace and Facebook aren’t a big problem, but Myearbook kind of is. It also freezes at times when i play a game for hours , which makes me have to turn it off and back on, but that isn’t often. Plus, it sometimes freezes when on Playstation Home, but i know that is because of lag through internet. I want to know why it does this or if there is something wrong with my ps3.
Close, I have a crappy old computer at the moment instead of a laptop. I’m gonna get a laptop soon though. I only get on myspace and facebook at times on my ps3 because my dad has a certain time when my desktop computer is denied access to the internet.

I dnt get on myspace or facebook on the ps3 so i cant vouch for that. Nor do i get on PS home. But hey, i assume since you posted this question you must have a compuer/laptop, let that be your Social Network device for myspace and facebook and let your ps3 be your gaming device

wedding whitening?

zoom whitening vs. brite smile???

I recently got engaged and our engagement photo’s are comming up. I would like to get my teeth as white as they can be.
I has an appointment to go to brite smile in san francisco tomorrow but they called yesterday to cancel now I am thinking about getting zoom whitening done locally at western dental. It is the same price($299), has anyone done either of theese procedures? Results? Happy/unhappy? Worth it?

I’ve done britesmile and I’m actually going for an appointment on Saturday. I LOVE THEM.
I’ll be booking for a couple weeks before my wedding, too.
I’m not familiar with Zoom, but I can tell you why I love britesmile – - its done and over with in one sitting!
Yes, you have to be careful of what you eat & drink for 24 to 48 hours, but thats it. Afterwards you are set to go!

Its been about 1 year since I had a ‘follow up’ treatment. While I don’t feel I *need* the follow-up, if I don’t have it I’ll lose money – - I bought a follow-up package that expires in 2 years time.

Its about 18 months til’ my wedding so I will plan on going back just before the wedding to have it done again, but after that, I’m going to wait and see before I schedule again and I won’t bother with buying the discounted follow-up package since I don’t feel I need it and I’m only doing it so I use it before it expires.

Stan answers:

Hi, I am a registered dental nurse and have been practising for 18 years…so the best tooth whitening method in my opinion is the one prescribed by a dentist and used in the home enviroment such as opalescence. This consists of having impressions taken of top or bottom jaw or both depending on what you wish to be bleached,a custom made tray is then manufactured to fit your mouth. In this tray in the comfort of your own home you place the tooth whitening product and wear for a minimum of 3 hours, most people tend to wear them over night and dont find them too uncomfortable.A trip back to the dentist up to 2 wks after initial whitening is normally required to check progress against the starting shade. The final shade reached is purely up to the wearer but it is important to note that once you stop “bleaching” there will be a small “bounce back” of colour as the effect of the whitening gel is to slightly dehydrate the tooth substance therefore making them look whiter. Also it is important to know that white composite fillings do not bleach as do not crown bridge work etc!so if you have any of those they will look darker in comparison. If you find after a few months or in most cases I have dealt with a year the teeth start to darken again you simply top up with more gel as you already have the trays. This normally depends on your diet, red wine, coffee etc!The initial ste up costs range from £250 to £300.This would be my prefered method as the “in chair” whitening system is quick the colour tends not to be as stable and they send you home with gel anyway. Also you have more control in which shade you end up with. The light I believe has the effect of heating the gel and making the process faster.Again I would prefer the gel as this I would think is gentler on the tooth….hope this helps

Whitening pen?

Hi there, i bought a whitening pen for my teeth, it is called Brite smile. does anyone of u have any experience with whitening pens? im just worried it mite actually harm my teeth more than help. Thanks
it is a way of whitening teeth, instead by using a laser.

Stan answers:

It probably won’t HARM the teeth unless you go way overboard and put it on like 3 times a day….

However, I doubt you’ll get particularly dramatic results with it!

There are three effective ways to whiten:

1 – in the chair at the dentists – they coat the teeth w/ reactant chemical and shine a laser on it. Very fast, fairly effective and really darn expensive! Like $500 or more.

2 – getting a bleaching tray from a dentist. They make a mold of your teeth, make a light tray from the mold, you put the bleaching solution in there and wear it at night or just around the house and it works noticably in days or perhaps a couple weeks. Nice thing here is if you drink coffee or wine or smoke, you can “touch up” the bleach by wearing it a bit here at there to get back up to speed. Kinda pricey; usually $200 range – i chg 175 per arch, so 350 for both upper an lower.

3 – Crest White strips – these aren’t as dramatic as the others, but they work fairly well. If your teeth were whiter and are just stained due to the chemicals I mentioend above (wine, tea whatever) then you’ll notice a nice effect and they’re only like $30 at the drug store. Give it a try.

Good luck!

What’s the best way to whiten my teeth – details inside!?

My teeth aren’t very yellow or anything, but they are discolored. I had braces for five years ages 8-13, and I probably wasn’t responsible enough to take care of them the way I should. I’m twenty-two now, and I’m very self conscious of my smile. It’s not incredibly noticeable until you are close to my face, but the tip tops of my front teeth are whiter than the other parts of the tooth and you can tell. It looks stained, only the stains are super white, if that makes sense. I’m afraid to use Brite Smile because won’t that just whiten the already white part too? What’s the best option?

Stan answers:

Your teeth will only whiten so far, so no, if parts of your teet are already bright white, they won’t get whiter.

I’d recommend you use a strong whitening gel and apply the gel to the stained part of your teeth rather than the entire tooth surface.

If the OTC stuff won’t clear up your stains then talk to your dentist about whitening gel. The whitening gel from the dentist is really not that much more expensive than the high quality OTC stuff but it does have a higher concentration of peroxide in it than the OTC stuff does. The big expense w/ the dental whiteners is for the mold to make your tray. If you already have a tray (or just tell them you do) then they will sell just the gel to you.

You will need to make sure there is a tight seal on the gel on your teeth because the tighter the seal the better the whitening—that’s why the dentist makes a tray that fits your mouth.

A black dot?…if u brush and it goes then its just food..if its inside it might be the rest of the cavity that didnt leave or get brushed out..if its outside then it would be a whole or a stain

How to prevent tooth stains from braces….?

I have the fixed train track braces and I always seem to get yellow stuff between the brackets, only the front teeth, from my left fang tooth to the right one, bottom and upper. My dentist told me off today because I had so much of it, he has to clean my teeth, it took about 20 minutes and it was so horrible and he said that if I don’t look after them any better that when I get my braces off their will be little white stains on the tooth. I believe professional teeth whitening gets rid of stains but does it mean coffee stains or stains from braces. My mum told me that once you have the brace stains you can’t get rid of them, how does she know? She no expert and she’s never had braces.

Any tips you can give, I always have and always do look after my teeth and I’ve never been told off before, only since I’ve got the braces I’ve had trouble!

Any ideas?
Thanks for answering!

How do I remove tooth stains from black tea that are located at the base of my teeth right next to my gums?

Every time I go to my dentist he tells me that I should stop drinking black tea because I get really bad strains on my inner teeth. They are like a thin line that is located at the base of the tooth right along the edge of my gums. I barely drink black tea now, but I still have the stains, and I want to remove them without a dentist’s help because I feel that I get my teeth cleaned too often and they are weakened by it. Is there a product or a way of brushing that can get rid of thee types of stains? I need something that will decompose this layer of whatever without harming my actual tooth…Anyone know something that really works?? Preferably a home remedy?

I would suggest whitening products. They are readily avaliable in the supermarkets today.

I am not very good with home remedies, but I think I heard that baking soda and peroxide will do the trick.

Hope this helps and good luck.
